Frequently Asked Questions about ordering personalized caricatures and portraits
FIND ANSWERS BEFORE PLACING YOUR ORDER
1. General – General questions about caricatures and portraits
The word comes from the Italian caricare (“to load” or “to exaggerate”) and began to be used in the 16th century, when Renaissance artists like Leonardo da Vinci were already experimenting with exaggerated facial studies. Since then, caricature has evolved from political cartoons and humorous sketches into a legitimate artistic discipline.
Today, caricature goes far beyond satire and can become a form of portraiture in its own right. From street art to digital illustration, its visual language allows the artist to interpret someone’s identity with creative freedom, capturing not only physical traits but also a gesture, a look, or an attitude. A caricature does not always exaggerate. Sometimes it suggests, balances, or interprets – and that is why it can move as much as it entertains.
A portrait, on the other hand, focuses on a faithful and nuanced representation of the face, with greater realism and subtlety. Both formats are valid forms of artistic expression: one is more interpretive, the other more classic. The choice depends on the feeling or message you want to convey.
This kind of commission does not aim to distort or ridicule. Instead, it highlights the subject’s expression, gesture, or energy with artistic sensitivity. It can be more realistic, stylized, minimalist, or expressive, depending on your preferences.
My approach aims to highlight the essence and beauty of each person, never grotesque exaggeration. I paint with special attention to form, light, and facial structure. I combine digital painting techniques with more than 20 years of experience in art, animation, and visual design, which allows me to approach each work with technical skill and creative freedom.
You can choose from several formats, all digital and fully hand-drawn:
Personalized Caricature
Basic Caricature
Pet Caricature
Artistic Portrait
Group scenes or themed illustrations
Business commissions (logos, team portraits, social media use)
If you have a special idea in mind, I’d be happy to create something unique for you.
2. Orders and PaymentsHow to place an order and available payment methods
Yes, of course. When you place your order, you can indicate if you’d like an invoice. I’ll send it to you by email with all the necessary information.
3. Photos and InstructionsRequired photos and how to personalize your illustration
The better the material you provide, the more accurate and expressive the final result will be. If the photos are very old, blurry, or low quality, I’ll do my best within my possibilities, but the result may not be as precise. In that case, I cannot be held responsible for technical limitations caused by the image quality.
If you also have a specific visual style in mind, feel free to mention it when placing your order.
4. Creative ProcessHow I work on your order and delivery timelines
Then, I create an internal rough sketch to define the composition, expression, and structure. This step is not usually shared unless you specifically request it.
Once the base is established, I move on to the final illustration. The entire process is done manually, painted by hand in digital format, with no filters or templates. When it’s finished, I’ll send you the final artwork in high-resolution by email, ready to print or share.
In specific cases, I may be able to deliver even faster, depending on the complexity of the artwork and my current workload. If you have a very tight deadline, feel free to contact me in advance using the contact form.
5. DeliveryFile format, delivery time, and printing options
If you need a different format or dimensions (A4, square, custom size…), just let me know when placing your order.
I recommend using photo paper of at least 180 gsm, preferably satin or glossy. You can also print it on canvas, t-shirts, mugs, cushions, frames, and more. If you’re unsure, I’ll be happy to advise you.
6. Changes and RefundsRevisions, cancellations, and refund policy
If you’re still not satisfied after that, we’ll review your case personally. My goal is always for you to be happy with the result, within what is reasonable and possible based on the nature of the commission.
Larger changes, such as modifying facial features or redoing major parts of the artwork, are not included and may incur an additional cost.
7. Rights and UsageCopyright, personal use, and usage conditions
However, the copyright remains mine as the creator, as with any original artwork. It may not be resold, modified, or used commercially without my explicit permission.
